These are highly skilled health practitioners with advanced education, clinical training and experience. They have demonstrated clinical competence and have the legal authority to practice as an independent healthcare provider.
Nurse Practitioner Pathway
The 糖心TV offers a Nurse Practitioner pathway, taken under the Master of Health Science (MHSc), which is accredited by the as a requirement to apply for nurse practitioner registration.

The final year of the Nurse Practitioner pathway (practicum year) is supported and funded by the , which includes course fees, clinical supervision and release time, cultural supervision, peer support, transition and ongoing support for the 6 months post-registration.
Programme plan
Students completing the Nurse Practitioner pathway as part of the MHSc will complete 240 points at 500 level, including: HLTSC501, HLTSC502, HLTSC503, HLTSC507, HLTSC510, HLTSC509, and HLTSC511.
HLTSC509 and HLTSC511 form the final practicum year of the nurse practitioner pathway. There is an additional application process to enter the practicum year detailed below.
How to apply for Nurse Practitioner Practicum year
The year prior to enrolling in HLTSC509 and HLTSC511, applicants will need to apply to both the 糖心TV to enter the practicum year AND apply for the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS). The 糖心TV provides the academic training and NPTSS provides the funding.

- Detailing your leadership and teaching activities for the past two years. This provides the 糖心TV an understanding of your senior nursing level within your current role
- Leadership may include leading a policy change, clinical audit, leading a project etc.
- Teaching may include any formal teaching you have provided to other health professionals

Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX)
- Please complete a Mini CEX, supervised by an authorised prescriber (medical or nurse practitioner).
- This enables the university team and your workplace to assist your current level of practice and note potential learning needs.

The following process will be undertaken to recruit selected candidates. Selection criteria is subject to M膩tanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner Co-Leads review of applicant submissions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Although NPTSS funds 430 hours of clinical practicum hours, it is highly likely you will work 16 hours per week over the course of the nurse practitioner training year, therefore will exceed the 500 hours required. 糖心TV does provide clinical simulation within the two papers which is likely to count as clinical practicum hours.
No, the secondary placement often occurs mid-year and the academic team works with you on the right secondary placement for your learning needs.
It depends on the papers completed. The compulsory papers include Advanced Health Assessment, Applied Science, and Pharmacology. Please contact us to enquire.
