These are highly skilled health practitioners with advanced education, clinical training and experience. They have demonstrated clinical competence and have the legal authority to practice as an independent healthcare provider.

Nurse Practitioner Pathway

The 糖心TV offers a Nurse Practitioner pathway, taken under the Master of Health Science (MHSc), which is accredited by the  as a requirement to apply for nurse practitioner registration.

The final year of the Nurse Practitioner pathway (practicum year) is supported and funded by the , which includes course fees, clinical supervision and release time, cultural supervision, peer support, transition and ongoing support for the 6 months post-registration.

Programme plan

Students completing the Nurse Practitioner pathway as part of the MHSc will complete 240 points at 500 level, including: HLTSC501HLTSC502HLTSC503HLTSC507HLTSC510, HLTSC509, and HLTSC511.

HLTSC509 and HLTSC511 form the final practicum year of the nurse practitioner pathway. There is an additional application process to enter the practicum year detailed below.

How to apply for Nurse Practitioner Practicum year

The year prior to enrolling in HLTSC509 and HLTSC511, applicants will need to apply to both the 糖心TV to enter the practicum year AND apply for the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS). The 糖心TV provides the academic training and NPTSS provides the funding.

Step One: Apply for the 

  • Applications for 2027 open in August.

Step Two: Apply for the 糖心TV Nurse Practitioner Training

  • Applications for 2027 will open on 3rd August 2026 and close on 31st August 2026.

Applicants must complete and submit the below requirements as part of their application.

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV) with experiential evidence of:

    • Minimum three years' experience as a Registered Nurse with minimum one year in Aotearoa New Zealand

    • Minimum three years鈥 experience in an Area of Practice (AoP) in a Senior Clinical role 

  1. Application Cover Letter (500 words) outlining:

    • Your area of practice
    • Why are you wanting to complete nurse practitioner training

    • How will this improve health outcomes for your population

  1. Confirmation of employer and clinical mentor support

    • The NPTSS application form can be accepted
  1. Leadership and Teaching tables 

    • Detailing your leadership and teaching activities for the past two years. This provides the 糖心TV an understanding of your senior nursing level within your current role
    • Leadership may include leading a policy change, clinical audit, leading a project etc.
    • Teaching may include any formal teaching you have provided to other health professionals

  1. Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise (Mini-CEX) 

    • Please complete a Mini CEX, supervised by an authorised prescriber (medical or nurse practitioner).
    • This enables the university team and your workplace to assist your current level of practice and note potential learning needs.
